What to Do After Storm Tree Damage
Stay Safe
Keep everyone away from fallen trees and hanging limbs. Do not attempt to move a tree that is on your house — the tree may be supporting the structure. Stay away from downed power lines and call your utility company immediately.
Document the Damage
Before any cleanup, photograph everything from multiple angles. Your insurance company will need documentation. Note the date and time of the storm. Do not discard any debris until your adjuster has seen it.
Call Your Insurance Company
Report the claim as soon as possible. Ask specifically what your policy covers for tree removal and structural damage. Get a claim number before work begins.
Call a Licensed Tree Expert
Contact a Maryland Licensed Tree Expert for emergency assessment and removal. Verify they are licensed and insured before any work begins — storm season brings unlicensed operators who disappear after taking payment.
Secure the Property
If a tree has damaged your roof or walls, temporary tarping may be needed to prevent further water damage. We can coordinate with your contractor or help identify emergency tarping services.
